Gangster First Review
Movie opens with a 10-15 mins long cartoon animated narration (which is done quiet good but worked bad for the movie) which takes the audience to an awe. This portion sets the beginning part of the movie which takes us through the childhood of Akbar(Mammooty) where his father was a gold smuggler in Mumbai who ends up being shot dead by a cop as per the plan of the rivals and Akbar was saved by Karimikka (T.G Ravi) who was a trusted one of Akbar's father. Akbar returns to Mumbai for revenge and with the accomplished revenge, Karimikka lets him know about the fortune his father had left him and from here begins the journey of the gangster in real time action. Experimental narration seemed to be a bad move for it never could hit the point and was a worthless try which did effect the movie badly. The first few minutes of the movie took the audience away from the spotlight of the plot thus creating a gap between the audience and the film. Again a negative strike for the efforts put in. Audience couldn't relate to the emotion of the characters for the same reason. The whole movie looks like shattered piece of scenes put together to make a full length feature which was completely lacking the emotional element which is the vital factor for revenge story. Movie is a disappointment in the first place. Weak screenplay and poor execution by Asiq Abu for misjudging the edit option. Unwanted narration style made the movie lagging. Two plus hours in the screening room makes it feel like years stuck inside. Nothing in the movie impressed the audience except one scene where Akbar(Mammooty) gives a F--k off to Anto (Shekar Menon). Except for that 1 minute nothing else could leave any reaction among the audience . 1. Weak screen play 2. Poor execution by the Director 3. Unwanted experimentation in the narration which really made it look like a bedtime story than a movie as the name made us to expect 4. Disappointment 5. Casting was good. Shekar Menon did a good job and was a fresh look for a villain from what we are used to 6. Mammooty wasn't bad either (nothing new and very similar to Big B as well)
സിനിമ തുടങ്ങുന്നത് പത്തുപതിനഞ്ചു മിനിറ്റോളം നീണ്ടു നില്‍ക്കുന്ന കാര്‍ട്ടൂണ്‍ ആനിമേഷനോടെയാണ്‌, ഈ ആനിമേഷന്‍ നന്നായിട്ടു ചെയ്തിട്ടുണ്ടെങ്കിലും ചിത്രത്തിന്‌ എത്രമാത്രം പ്രയോചനമായെന്നുള്ളത്‌ പ്രേക്ഷകര്‍ പ്രതികരണത്തിലൂടെ വ്യക്തമാക്കുന്നുണ്ട്‌. ഈ തുടക്കത്തിലുള്ള ആനിമേഷനിലൂടെ വിവരിക്കുന്നത് അക്ബറിന്റെ (മമ്മൂട്ടി) കുട്ടിക്കാലമാണ്‌. അക്ബറിന്റെ അച്ഛന്‍ മുംബയിലെ ഒരു സ്വര്‍ണ്ണ കള്ളക്കടത്തുകാരനായിരുന്നു. അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ പ്രതിയോഗിയുടെ പദ്ധതിയനുസരിച്ച് ഒരു പോലീസുദ്ദ്യോഗസ്തന്റെ വെടിയേറ്റാണ്‌ അക്ബറിന്റെ അച്ഛന്‍ കൊല്ലപ്പെടുന്നത്‌, അന്നു അച്ഛന്റെ വിസ്വസ്തനായ കരീം ഇക്കായുടെ (ടി.ജി. രവി) സഹായത്തോടെയാണ്‌ അക്ബര്‍ രക്ഷപെട്ടത്. ആരെയും നേരിടാനുള്ളാ കരുത്താര്‍ജിച്ചതിനു ശേഷമാണ്‌ അക്ബര്‍ തന്റെ അച്ഛന്റെ ഘാതകനോടുള്ള വൈര്യഗ്യത്താല്‍ മുംബയില്‍ തിരിച്ചെത്തുന്നത്. അന്നു നടന്ന സംഭവങ്ങളൊക്കെയും കരീം ഇക്ക അക്ബറിന്‌ വ്യക്തമാക്കിക്കൊടുക്കുന്നു, അവിടം മുതലാണ്‌ ഗാങ്സ്റ്ററിന്റെ മുന്നോട്ടുള്ള യാത്ര ആരംഭിക്കുന്നത്. സിനിമയുടെ കഥാബീജം പ്രേക്ഷകരിലേക്കെത്തിക്കുന്നതിന്‌ പരീക്ഷണത്തോടെയുള്ള വിവരണം വിലപ്പോയില്ല എന്നതാണ്‌ വാസ്തവം. ആദ്യഭാഗത്ത്‌ തന്നെ സിനിമയും പ്രേക്ഷകരും തമ്മില്‍ ഒരു വിയോജിപ്പ്‌ അനുഭവപ്പെടുന്നത് കഥാപാത്രങ്ങളുടെമേല്‍ പ്രേക്ഷകര്‍ക്കുണ്ടാകേണ്ട മനോവികാരത്തെ നെഗറ്റീവായാണ്‌ ബാധിക്കുന്നത്‌. പല സീനുകള്‍ കൂട്ടിച്ചേത്ത ഒരു സിനിമ രൂപപ്പെട്ടത് ഒഴിച്ചാല്‍ ഒരു പ്രതികാര കഥയിലുണ്ടായിരിക്കേണ്ട വികാരഘടകങ്ങള്‍ ഒന്നും തന്നെ അനുഭവസാധ്യമാകുന്നില്ല. ആഷിക് അബു-മമ്മുക്ക കൂട്ടുകെട്ടില്‍ പ്രേക്ഷകര്‍ പ്രതീക്ഷിച്ച വിജയമുണ്ടായില്ല. ബിഗ്ഗ്‌ബിയിലേ മമ്മുക്കയേ അനുസ്മരിപ്പിക്കുന്ന കഥാപത്രത്തെ വീണ്ടും കാണാമെന്നതോഴിചാല്‍ പ്രത്യേകിച്ചു പുതുമയൊന്നും എടുത്തുപറയാനില്ല. ശേഖര്‍ മേനൊന്റെ കഥാപാത്രം ശ്രദ്ധയാകര്‍ഷിക്കുന്നതാണ്.
