Mariyam Mukku Movie Review

Mariyam Mukku Movie Review

Mariyam mukku won’t give you the magic realism feel which Amen gave you. This is the normal story of an imaginary fishing port called Mariam mukku and ancient settlement of Portuguese which now lost all the glory of the past.

Written and directed by James Albert and produced by A.K. Sabeer the movie gives you some moments of laughter and the stunts showcase usual developments on a coastal village.

Felix (Fahad Faasil) lost both his parents at a young age itself. And this made him lose his faith in God as well as in the Mother Mary, who is the patron of the village. With all his anger and rage he grows up to be the right hand of Mariyappan ( Manoj K. Jayan). The duo rule the village in every sense.

Sayipp ( Joy Mathew) is a funny guy who is from the fishermen community yet feels himself as an Anglo Indian. Fr. Gabriel (Prathap Pothen) is a serious and silent character, but he play a crucial role in the story.

Felix and friends and regular trouble makers. During the parish feast Mariyappan is attacked a by neighbouring villager who is followed by Felix but he let him free because of an unexpected incident.

Soon Salomi( Sana) daughter of Sayipp comes back after studies and fall in love with Felix. Soon a miracle happened changing the life of everyone in Maryiam mukku.

Rest of the movie will tell you what all are the struggles Felix will have to face in order to win his love. And who are his real friends and who are not.

Fahadh as well as everyone in the cast did an excellent role, including Aju Varghese in his guest character with negative touch. The movie is quite predictable and offer you no surprises.

Cinematography by Girish Gangadharan was good in steady shots especially of the sea, but failed to capture the tension in moving shots. Editing by Ranjan Abraham is also just good.

Art direction by Mohandas gave some excellent backgrounds but always had an artificial feeling.

Costumes by Sameera Saneesh suits the characters in the movie, but she didn’t put up anything breathtaking.

Music by Vidyasagar sounded good at times but gives an impression that I have heard this tone somewhere before!

Altogether Mariyam mukku is watchable to see the performance by Fahadh but not for the story.
