Mili Malayalam Movie Review

Mili Malayalam Movie Review

As a migrant in a city of Kerala, I know many Milis both female and male. Hence the movie did touch me.

Mili is an inspirational movie with a female protagonist. Directorial venture by Rajesh Pillai and produced by Sathish B Sathish. The story as well as the screenplay is written by Mahesh Narayanan.

Mili (Amal Paul) is the daughter of a retired professor. And goes without saying that she grew up under tremendous pressure to be successful. And this affects her self confidence and find it difficult to make good relationships and to perform well in job.

Mili’s room mates just want to get away from her. The management of the play school where she works also find it difficult to keep her because of her under performance.

Nancy (Praveena) and her mother (Ambika) are the sole friends for Mili in the big city. Away from the father alone in the big city Mili fight against the draw backs in her own character which play the anti-hero in Mili.

Nancy’s brother Naveen (Nivin Pauly) comes to Mili’s life with some positive changes. And the rest of the movie focus on how Mili try to be successful and whether she will succeed in normal view.

The director and writer did a brave move with the unusual approach yet failed to bring any real conflicts and twists in the movie. Once again Rajesh Pillai focused on the young migrants in the cities of Kerala. And is successful in getting their life in details. Especially the women migrants.

The camera work is worth appreciation as well as the make up. Both especially when heroine has to look normal and without make up.

Lyrics and music of the movie make sense as well as go hand in hand with the story.

All the cast put up a good show including Saikumar, Bindu Panicker and Baby Nandana.

If you are born in late 80s or early 90s you will see yourself or your friends in Mili. Mili is really a movie about a generation of youth who struggle to be as successful as their successful parents.
